Chest of gold coins found in Dronfield

A family from Dronfield, Derbyshire has discovered an old mahogany box sitting around their house contained gold coins dating back more than 2,000 years.br /br / The find, which contained more than 1,500 pieces made from various precious metals, is currently up for sale at ELR on Shalesmoor in Sheffield.br /br / Roman coins are always popular but there is the full spectrum in this collection. Gold coins are also popular at the moment, auctioneer Rob Lea said, adding: It’ll be a cracking sale.br /br / According to Mr Lea, the lots have been split into various groupings to enable collectors to better bid for the pieces in which they are interested.br /br / Opening the box was a little bit like Christmas, he admitted, with each drawer containing some real beauties.br /br / Elsewhere, American gold coins from the 1800s were last week on sale at Stephenson’s Auctioneers in Southampton, Pennsylvania, with more than 400 items available for purchase.br / nbsp;
